Life Is Like A River

Life is like a River.

The casual drift of a rivers flow
Over cascading rapids and undertow.
Of secrets captured on floating leaves
Carving out its own course with ease.
The abundance of life that dwells within.
The water spills forth in urgent spin.

Life is like a river can you devour the taste.
Ever cleansing itself from man’s daily waste

Many battles have left the river flow bloody red
Its mighty banks have withstood all that’s dead.
Hidden worlds kept from man’s watchful eye.
Reflecting the brilliant light of a blue sky.
The currents strength rages with the seasons change.
Causing torrents of floods to lands disarrange.

Life is like a river, a slender vein in the earth.
Pumping water since the time of its birth.

Traveling through dense forests and endless plains
Through mountain gorges and fisherman’s seines
Lazily meandering through towns filled with stores
Raining down as a waterfall, lapping on cities shores.
Carrying huge ships and everything that floats
Past damns, portages, ponds, snags, bogs and moats.

Life is like a river, every bend offers a new view.
Rivers are like life, adventures found in me and you.

Catching the teardrop of a lonely girl in love.
Mixed with raindrops from the heavens above.
The river carries each and every one on its way
From one vein to another rambling without delay
Eventually traveling to the oceans so deep.
Where the sun’s evaporation makes it leap.

Life is like a river, it’s a beginning and an end.
Where memories are formed and dreams upend

Author notes

I've been a river rat all my life. I simply love canoeing and the peaceful flow of a river.

Big bro, I'm truly impressed! This is divine! Your imagery is gorgeous, I could almost feel myself floating on the gentle waters. The correlation between human emotions and nature's beauty was fantastic! Very lyrical, as always! Wonderfully written!

Ooooooh ck! I felt through the whole entire poem that I was the river flowing around through the ups and downs of society and humanity. This was beautiful...I believe it's one of the most wonderful poems I have read in quite a while. The flow is wonderful and the sceam is great. The whole thing feels like it is water flowing, sometimes rushing, sometimes running. Oh well done, bravo!

Great write. Beautiful imagery throughout this piece. I like the concept of life being like a river, like we are sailing through life experiencing so many adventures. This piece made me think of the Garth Brook's song "The River", except the song was about dreams, not life. Anyway, great write. Keep up the good work.

I like the comparision and think it is highly appropriate. You also use some good choice of words and rhymes for the most part though I think there are a few areas where rhymes or word choice could be tweaked to improve overall clarity and flow. A good write.
