How have we all come down to this?
How has our world come to this?
How do we live with ourselves knowing that,
It’s all our fault
That kids are starving
And our people are dying
It’s all our fault
That kids are scarred from the sights they see
That the problems in our society grow bigger
It’s all our fault
That we can’t trust one another
And that we don’t know right from wrong
The burden lies on our shoulders
We’re the ones who manipulated this earth
So we’re the ones who need to fix it up
You hear each night
That someone died
Graphic pictures of wars overseas
The police are chasing a new suspect
Someone lied
And there’s a new drug bust
Why do we wallow in sorrow?
Is each other’s misery what keeps us happy?
How do we stand to know that
Every scrap of food we throw away
Could be an orphan’s next meal
We blame each other for our own faults
Pointing our finger when three are pointing back
Our world lacks love and we don’t bother to look for it
We’ve got
Body parts being sold on the Black Market
Kids are getting paid for sex
So they can buy some drugs and something to eat tonight
Teenage mother with a 3 year old and a new born
Suicide rates increase around holidays
Because we don’t realize that some people are all alone
We have first class looking down on third
All because of money and possessions
When will we realize that its what’s inside
We’ve corrupted this world with hate
And its probably too late to turn it around
But we’ve gotta see that if we don’t fix our mistakes
It’ll be our children and descendants
Who will pay the price
So what are you gonna do or say
To make a difference in our world
Who will you help along the way
We don’t realize what an impact we have
On the people we surround
Just a smile can go a long way to show that you care
Cause our fate lies on our shoulders
And it’s a burden we must see through
We grow stronger when we realize
We were wrong…

That's amazingly penned... and so true. It makes me want to get off this site and do something great for the world.
Great poem and good luck in my contest! -
This was mostly depressing, but the couple positive things you said rang true. It is good to remind people they have to make a positive difference and admit our mistakes and change them. Like you say, it will be our future who pays the price. Thank you for entering.

Welcome to AllPoetry
A very lengthy poem that actually makes some very valid points and the statement made in the last two lines are the most powerful of all. A true gem.
