Prince Shaney Toad

Outcast, you are.
Despised, hated.
Your very touch poison,
Your every word grating to the ears.

Once you were desired,
Wanted by all.
For your beauty,
your wealth, your body.

None will approach,
All fear your arrival.
Scornfully, they abandon
The one they used to love.

Yet I look in your eyes,
And see what once was,
Know it can be revealed
Again.

A kiss.
One kiss,
No fear, only love.
The simple kiss of truth.

Though I risk death
If heart had deceived,
Eyes bewitched me,
I give in to fate.

Or destiny.
Our lips meet,
I close my eyes
Believing.

I feel arms upon me
Touching my face
My body
Me.

Eyes opened,
I see you there.
Standing once more.
My prince. My Shane.

Toad no more.

Author notes

I've been wanting to write a poem for the man that has re-entered my life.
