Address to God, from a Coward

Dear Jesus,
I'm sorry,
I shied from the church,
again.
Not that I want to,
but, because I have to,
for shame is all I feel.
I feel shame from those around me,
those who call themselves christians,
they who distain me,
for my Liberal beliefs.
You are my shining light,
the only one there to guide me.
If I were wrong,
I would fail in my belief of you.
I see not how,
one who made us all,
could hate one or two of us,
for being different.
You alone, understand,
you alone, defied evil.
My evil is my congregation,
I understand them not,
And alone, I cannot fight them.
With your help,
I can refrain,
and bite my tongue,
when it should be bitten.
You are my guiding light,
the only light that shines,
for you are my Lord, Savior, God.
You can help me to stand tall, and true,
in the face of wrath,
In the face of evil.
And I shall triumph.
Amen.

Author notes

alrighty, then. THis is my direct prayer to God, Jesus, the son, the holy ghost, the father, et cetera, whatever you see fit to call him. The holy triad. I have a problem, see, I am too liberal for my community and congregation. Granted, we accpet homosexuals, in my church, but people frown upon what is different. I am different. And I am a coward. I hate going to church, seeing the Pastor and his distasteful look as he drives away in his shiny new red mustang. I hate watching everyone watch me with abhoration. its not right.

so...With God, and Jesus, I can defeat them, and their hipocracy.

    Awwwww!

Different, I, a Pastor (retired) felt the same reaction from my congregation, and I'm not gay! Yes, liberality is in the church and that surprises me that you found such a grievous situation. Usually, it is the other way around. This is not the forum for such a discussion however, perhaps, my next contest will deal with the issue of Liberality vs Conservatism in the Modern Church. How's that sound theologically. Christ loves us all. We, the Church, divide one another into categories. My region here in Southern California has left our Am. Baptist Churches because of homosexuality. I am not happy about that. Why should I be forced out of my own denomination because of a few? Why not work and pray together, seeking answers and change within each of us.

You poem sparked my mind I'm afraid. Good work. Sorry for your feelings though. Stiff upper lip. The Lord loves you; and me, and us all equally! Good Luck In the Contest. Walt.
