Grains of gold

Our lives, every day,
Are filled with emotions.
Sadness, happiness,
Are carved into memories.
They bring back tears,
Make us laugh sometimes.
In our retired age,
We spend hours,
Just going over all those times.
As life progresses,
They are the story of the past,
They remind us of who we are.
Every day, another piece,
Is added to the infinite puzzle,
Which makes our minds.
At the end of our paths,
We relive every one of them,
And we keep them until the end.
Yet, they are fragile,
even if strong they seem.
An illness could blow away,
Every little moment,
That we have treasured all our lives.
We would loose everything,
From our first kiss,
To our beautiful children,
To the friends we’ve had for an eternity.
It seems so sad, that all those years,
Of having them firmly in your mind,
Wasn’t enough for the sickness to destroy.
Memories are like grains of gold,
Valuable, but easily blown away.
Those people who loose their emotions,
Locked for so long in their hearts,
Never quite make it back to reality.
They are kept in hospitals,
Barely conscious of their surroundings,
Until they slowly wither away to death.
Memories are the food for our souls,
But remember they are as fragile
As our minds themselves.
