My first love happened
When I least expected it
I was just 13 years old
On a lonely summer day
When the boy I liked shot me down
I was sitting there on the swings
At the playground with no one else around
My little girl heart bruised
Then a boy walked up to me
He had holey jeans and a band shirt on
With black spikey hair and beautiful blue eyes
He told me his name was Mike
That I looked so very sad
I told him why and he asked my name and how old I was
Mike was 16
That was one of the best summers of my life
And one of the most tragic
Mike and I were inseperable
We never dated and I don't know why...we both liked each other
Whenever I was with him i felt so free,so...me
He made me feel like I was someone special...loved
I knew then that I was in love with Mike
When I turned 14, Mike threw me a cute little party, just him and I
With all my favorite music, food, and decorations
Then came the day when he turned 17
The night that I will never forget
He told me how he was going to get his license
He was so happy that the day was finally here
He picked he up and swung me around and kissed me
That's when he stopped and we looked each other in the eyes
Mike whispered "I love you, JoJo...will you go out with me?"
I was so happy that I kissed him and hugged him tight
He left for his license
But he didn't come back that night
Mike was hit by a drunk driver and died of head injuries
I never did tell him I loved him
That was our first and last night of being together
My first true love

This is true. Mike R. was the love of my life during that period. I still miss him and think about him a lot. And I know he is in some place whereever people go when they die and that I make him happy. RIP

I'm so sorry for your loss, but happy that your first true love will always be in your heart for you never forget the first true love of your life. I don't want to get started on my rant n'rave on drivers who drink alcohol for it will take away from the moment of happiness that you had by falling in love for the first time. I hope you do well in the contest.

thats a really awesome poem, i think a big part of poetry is meaning, and significance, and what you get out of it. and i know u got more out of writing this than i got out of reading it. but you hit that amazingly. just stay close to god and know that hes with him. mike will always be with you and yall will be together again. our time on this world is short
