You never could stop for you were in to far
all the drugs all the alcohol
it was ruining your life, but you couldn't see
with all your friends it was about having fun
did you not realize, when you saw a cop you HAD to run
Is this really the life you wanted
is this how you wish to be
just a life of so called "fun"
with no responsbility
Then one night, you got into a car
you were with a guy, and went a little to far
but through your life of pain and misery
came a baby girl that you named Railee
It gave you a purpose, a duty to fulfill
now you must raise her, and follow her will
she is just a young baby that you can't ignore
I know when she is crying and angry, it may seem like war
But realize the good times, look at her beautiful face
think about the fact that your life will not be a waste
she has made you better
a better mom, sister, daughter
a better person in life
your journey will no longer be just a long strife
So every time you want to take a hit or another shot
just think of the bundle of joy and all that you've got
you should focus on finding her a good dad
someone who will love her and care for her, never get mad
but most of all love her your self
and don't ever go back to that old life you had

This is such a powerful piece. And it really hits home as well, you have no idea how much I can relate to this poem. I can really feel your love for your sister and your niece. She is very lucky to have a brother like you that cares for her so much. It's also very well written with excellent rythm. I LOVE IT!

Wow
I liked this for many reasons: one, it's one of the few that paints a portrait from "outside" the situation, not the actual person experiencing it, and two, it was so hopeful. This was very well written. Alas, I have to delete you because I asked for no poems actively involved in other contests. I'm sorry; I hate this part of being a judge. I hope you can accept my critique that this was wonderful and best of luck in the "life is my anti drug" contest.
Blessed Be,
FaeRae

I love this. You are a good brother and uncle. A beautiful poem as well. Keep up the good work.
Love always,

This is a very mature outlook on this subject matter, you have shown how acting in a certain way can bring a negative or adverse result, you have then shown how wise it would be to take stock of life and see the benefits that could come by considering a different way of doing things. Drugs can devestate a life, they can bring havoac in their wake for those we love... anyone listening to and taking the sound advice you mention in your poem will without doubt have something better to look forward to. Well done, your title is excellent for this particular poem.

This is probably the most beatuiful sincere drug poem I have ever read, and I think this touched me more then some of the others because my mother stopped smoking marijuana and doing meth because she found out she was pregnant with me... This just matches up so prefectly, especially since it was her older brother that helped her get help...
