When I was a little girl I loved to hold my mama’s hand
And look with awe at the glitter of her beautiful wedding band.
I always dreamed of the day I’d have my own
But then I had hers when she passed on.
The day was fast approaching for my wedding
And I went to take them from their special bedding
The engagement ring was on my finger already
But the wedding band was gone and I couldn’t get myself steady.
I sat down in the floor and cried from my very soul
I know I was completely out of control.
I cried until there were no more tears
And wondered where it could be, I had some terrible fears.
We got married with a plain band he bought
But it put a damper on the gaiety I had sought
For that special day was to be a perfect thing
But it was happening without that special ring.
Months after the wedding I got a call at work
The voice said I have a surprise for you and you’ll never guess it’s worth
I got home that evening and imagine my surprise
When they held my mama’s wedding band right in front of my eyes.
