Dear John, there's something I must say
though each word will be a bitter pill,
I regret the pain I must convey
discarding vows that now I can't fulfill.
Dearest John, it happened oh so fast
like a bolt delivered from the blue,
it pierced my heart, leaving me aghast
with bones of choice that I cannot work through.
I tried hard to waiver from his spell
but was locked in eyes of ebony,
depths that flamed as hot as Hell
and neither tried nor willed to be set free.
Now I leave and follow where he leads
for my purpose now belongs with him,
all my worldly goods and all my deeds
I give it all, and break out on a limb.
My Dearest John, forgive me if you can
if my tears could take away your pain
there'd be no hurt thoughout your life span
and you would never sting like this again.
I thought that our love was ever true
and ask myself if I'm really sure,
but dreams I dreamed, now I'm living through,
I'm sorry, but this is the price of war.
My Dearest John, I'll close now, rest assured
this for me as been no easy task,
I'm well aware the hardship you've endured
that you believe, I tried, is all I ask.

Aww this is so... depressing. But I guess that is what makes a good poem- a piece that can make you feel what the author is trying to portray. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece...

you really know how to write a dear john letter, this is a sad but just amazing read, it is hard to read this and not get a little emotional, i think you did a great job keep it flowing
