There's No Place Like Home

i am floating in space
there's the sun
and there's oblivion
fiery warmth
or freezing emptiness

i choose the dark
it's all i've known for so long
it's my home
i have to stay

because how could i be happy
while others aren't?

with these thoughts
i fall forever
in the raw arms of infinity

Author notes

And by home, I don't mean my physical home. I mean the place where my soul has come to rest.

I like this one, actually. I like my short poems, for some reason. I guess the idea's depressing, but I tried to make it not as sad as most of my poems are. Although it wouldn't be mine if there wasn't some element of sadness.

    As deep as space.

To tumble through the the void and still know what is going on, an interesting thought. I've had chats with others about "are we allowed to enjoy our own poetry, and think that it is good" You are the first person I have read that has said "I like this one, actually" I hope all this makes sense! WASP.

beautiful beautiful beautiful poem. i love how it expresses thoughts and feelings in the colorful imagry you use. it is lyrical, thoughtful, and abstract as well as personal. it contains this element that is in all my favorite poems. i love it.

in some ways, yes. this is a depressing piece. but from another perspective, by almost like crossing your eyes while looking at a painting, everything sortof blurrs together, and the meaning changes. looking at it a different way, this poem seems comforting, calm and sure of itself. It's identifying home. it's like saying you know where you belong, and you're at least comfotable with it. does that make any sense?
