The Ink of Memories
Three years ago
I sat down to write
Of a loved one lost
But the tears that fell
Wiped away those words
They would have spoken
Of one who was so amazing
Of one who was go great
Of one who was so loving
And one who's story is now finished
Two years ago
I sat down to write
Of an incurable cancer
But the sadness shook me
And the pen would not write
The pen would have written
Of one who lived for God
Of one who took joy in her children
Of one who loved to laugh
And one who now laughs with God
One year ago
I sat down to write
Of a life that had been lived
But the flood of memories
Drowned the paper I wrote on
The paper would have told
Of one who could make anyone smile
Of one who was kind to everyone
Of one who never forgot to say hello
And one who will always be remembered
Today
I sit down to write
Of a remarkable woman
I hold a pen of sadness
Filled with the ink of memories
Today I can write
Of a life lived to its fullest
Of a woman who did her best
Of a love whose strength continues on
And of a mother whom I will always love and remember

February 12, 2004- I will never forget that day. That was the day my mother passed away. I do not say that I 'lost' her, because I know that she is home with our Savior, and someday I will see her again. Knowing that truth has helped me get through the pain and sadness I've had to face over the past three years. The experience of losing my mom made me think over her life, as well as my own. She was a person who was outgoing and always willing to help in any way she could. She had her faults, like any person, but she tried so hard to have a servant's heart. The church her memorial was held in was packed, she touched so many people's lives. I can only hope that my actions will affect half as many people.
