Special Friend

How many girls like Star Wars?
How many girls like school?
The greater question still remains-
Who'd think that girl was cool?

She had no idea what he was like,
So she went out on a limb
She struck a conversation up
And hoped she wouldn't sink, but swim.

It turns out, he liked Star Wars, too
And she gained a little hope
That this time, she wouldn't mess it up
And he wouldn't think she was a dope.

They talked a lot, all during class
And had a lot of fun.
The thing was, though, about their work...
It USUALLY got done!

They didn't always talk about
The same thing all the time;
They changed the subject now and then
And made accidental rhymes.

A lot of things became more clear,
Like people's points of view
The more they talked, the more they learned
That a lot of things are true.

She started looking forward
To school every day
To see her friend, her special friend,
Who was great in every way.

Author notes

Yes, I admit it... I'm the girl. All four of my best friends (at school) are guys, and this is about one of them. And yes, we started off thanks... to Star Wars!

This brought a big smile to my face and made me remember my school days. I especially love the last stanza with that feeling of being happy to go to school and the buzz of seeing your friend. Well done on this.

Good luck and thank you for entering.

LOL this is cute and thoughtful and it made sense. It's amazing, how friendships can just happen like that. You captured the trueness of friendship: it doesn't matter what you do, where you go, or what you talk about. A real friend is there, always.
