Lamenting, crying, and jumping about
as a monkey when someone dies.
Who can really say
if that dove there is
crying for the dead and
not singing instead on his moving tree?
My friend,
our tombs are all over the place
But where are the tombs of our ancestors?
Tread lightly if you can!
For I believe
the surface of the earth
is made from the gifts of those bodies
The Earth laughs merrily that
the same old grave
is a grave once again
Bodies fighting for that very same space.
Author notes
I heard this poem was written by a man in Mosuel. I heard it repeated a long time ago and always rememebered it. I looked it up on the internet recently and found this portion of a longer poem.
I translated it from Arabic to English. I took some liberties with the translation in hopes of keeping the meaning the same.
I hope you like it.
Tota
how does this translate, do you understand its deeper meaning?

well I congratulate you on your translation.. you managed to choose one of the most difficult poems in Arabic. I could barely understand the Arabic poem lol, the language is really difficult (my mother language is Arabic by the way) but seriously this was Difficult and I applaud your efforts and your work.
Keep on writing and translating lol, but choose something easier next time

Well my friend here there is a philosophy of the life which is presented here like we are revealed here a truth of the nature and to some extent it is true as well..the last part of this write is a magical truth and makes us stunned as well so true and so intriguing concept is this my friend....
صديقي هنا وهناك فلسفة الحياة التي عرضت هنا اؤكد اننا الى هنا الحقيقة من طبيعه والى حد ما صحيح ايضا. الجزء الاخير من هذه الكتابة سحريه الحقيقة ويجعلنا مذهل وذلك صحيح لمفهوم الفتنة وهذا هو صديقي... -
I liked it! my favorite part was:
"Who can really say
if that dove there is
crying for the dead and
not singing instead on his moving tree?"
I'm not sure why but it just seemed to jump out at me, i really enjoyed it. It translates very well.

"Dust to dust" is one interpretation of this poem, a land where we rise and live on the earth that contains those that have gone before us both spiritually and physically. A trully nice poem.

This translates very well as death is universal, yoda said "cry not for those that return to the force" as they become apart of the living god themselves, when my grandfather died recently my mother had been graduating a 7 year course in chinese medicine, I believed and told her;
"use him as a spirit connection to your healing art, for he is apart of you and will help with channeling the chi you have from the great spirit,"
this cheered her up straight away for she was worried about her future and besotted with grief of not being closer than she would of liked to him, and although i miss him dearly when i think of him apart of myself knows he is helping me from the otherside, as do all our ancestors and as a deeper time karma is cleared by our presence, the greater our lives will project to our children when we die, as such mass enlightenment shall be achieved and as these truths are realised, heaven so becomes closer to us
and so as the ever silent laughter of god cackles i bid you well
