Barren eyes brim with hatred, rage clouds blackened skies,
Red haze of fury pounding, ancient terror petrifies.
I am the Son of Darkness, I sprang from the loins of Chaos,
Of endless breadth and mighty thew, I am the lone colossus.
A reaper of the fallen ones, a shepherd for the slain,
I seek the souls of warriors felled by slaughter's reign.
A sore day, a black day--a day of hopeless mourning.
A lost day, a soulless day--my final gruesome warning.
For I am Asgard's chosen, a bringer of cold death,
To steal from living bosom, a final ragged breath.
Through frozen eons I have watched, cold and unforgiving,
Now released by Odin's breath, I fall upon the living.
To wreak my final vengeance on the world of light,
To cast 'neath endless darkness, fallen warriors' sight.
They will not sway me from my path--I will not turn away,
For I am Asgard's chosen--this is my final day.
To sweep the earth in pestilence, felled by sweeping plague,
To hew away magnificence, to lead faint hope astray.
My task is set, the hour nigh--all men flee my hand,
'Ere a black sun rises, I will rule this wasted land.
A son of Odin's Thunder, a child of Chaos reigns,
A Warrior of Ages, a giant without name.
To bring the Earth destruction, my Hammer raised for war,
I am the gods' avenger...I am the mighty Thor.

I have to say, you never fail to astound me... Amazing imagery, and wonderfully written rhymes. the last stanza is my favourite, and even though this is the third time I've read this piece, I'm still finding new things to like about it. Great write

Very well done indeed, loved the flow and the words chosen, great job on the rhymes as well, though Thor was actually the God of thunder, not war, but it still fits well enough for he did do battle alot. thanks for entering - Jacen an IndividualEleven.

You have a wonderful talent for writing fantasy poetry which takes the reader to the place and time. I find it very inspiring.

WOW! This was very good. I really like the last stanza. Anyway I don't know much about the viking lore but it is nice to read it sometimes. Thank you ever so much for entering and good luck.

great work on this poem, and welcome to the contest! I noticed that the rhyme faltered a little bit from line Seventeen down, and also the ninteenth line "'Ere a black sun rises...I will rule the wasteland." might actually sound better if you changed it to wasted land as it would even out the rhythm a little bit. Of course that's just me, and you did great work on this poem anyways (and I rather hate changing my own work) so it isn't a big deal anyways. Again, thanks for entering, and good luck in this contest

Actually, that's perfect. I've hated that line since I wrote the poem and been fishing for a way to fix it. I do appreciate the help.

Very well done! I liked the rhyme.
My favorite lines were:
"To wreak my final vengeance, on the world of light,
To cast 'neath endless darkness, fallen warriors' sight."
Thank you for your entry,
Good luck!

From the halls of Vallhala praises of Odin and Thor...Hammer raised he was the Valkeryre's strongest warrier. Given the greatest of strength and power. Inpiring tale you have spun here. The God's would be pleased to have their praises sung once again.
