The war between love and hate.
There has always been a war
between love and hate.
They say you have to truly
hate someone before you really
love them. But if that be true
why do you have to love someone
before you have a reason to hate?
For if hate means love,
does love mean hate?
and if it does, does that
mean I both hate and love you?
Does my love for you
out rank the hate?
All of this we can ponder,
know this I have never hated
or loved you.
It's just my war.

"But if that be true" -- "but if that is true."
"out rank the hate?" -- outrank.
Thanks for directing me to this! It certainly is an interesting topic. I like the conclusion (specifically the last line), but overall, it feels rather thin, almost as if you skimmed the surface of an idea that could go much deeper. I mean, I understood and agreed with a lot of what you wrote, but this felt lacking in that you didn't describe anything, didn't show anything, didn't leave a lasting impression.
I think you could certainly improve on this by broadening your vocabulary and usage of style, form, abstract description, and poetic devices. It is, however, a lovely topic. There's a book by Karl A. Menninger ("Love Against Hate" or "Hate Against Love" or something) that describes that this reminded me of. It's a great psychology book... probably out of print, though.

I wrote this when I was 16, I do not change the ink of my past but when you said you would like to see something a little more in depth it just reminded me of this.
I am now 25 and if you read anything I write of late my vocabulary has grown and so have my thoughts. I am also dislexis so I do struggle with alot spellings and what not. Thanks for the comment.
