The night was dry
But lights filled the sky
And the house felt like a scary place
An ominous feeling hung over the space
I walked down the stair
(Won't let myself look scared)
But when my feet touched the ground
Noone would hear a single sound
As the walls witnessed innocence fall
And the floor became its burial mound
Dark down here
His breath stank of
Stale beer
Relief turned to
Bewildered fear
As the expected smile
Was a burning leer
Clumsy touches
Bore me bare
To the hungriest of
Predatory stares
And I felt good
Until it hurt
Shame filled tears
Baptized my shirt
Everything changed
One stormy day
Rain poured like tears
Clouds crying over a child's fears
The house was a forlorn place
A graveyard of forgotten grace
As it rained like the tears of
A jaded face
I walked down the stair
(Nobody cared)
There was nothing else to do
Daddy, do you love me too?
The walls saw things that would break a
Knowing heart right in two

I agree that this is a very frightening write. So terrible and tragic. I am moved to anger and tears. Wow!

Very frightening for a child to live through, if this is not personal you have brought emotions into this very well - make it seem real and brought us to that site and place. So sad, tragic that this has to happen to the innocent who just want to be loved.

thanks for the comment, it's a terrible subject but poetry's all about the emotion and ideas behind it.. and this is more about forlorn love and being taken advantage of than child abuse... which everyone can relate to I'm sure.
