Notes To Self

Missing image
do not read any more sad poetry,
sing no more sad songs,
dream no more dear dreams,

simply stop this urge to slump
into a sorrow that has its own taste,
and feel

promise yourself to keep that locket closed,
do not take our that lock of hair
and be tempted to taste it

vow not to let a sudden beautiful scene
drag you on slick skis back to cold shouldered
mountains and pike-filled lakes
or long highways with place names
that we made fun of, or deserts painted
with our names, or meadows that hide a blanket

oh, yes, and do not ride buses that have windows
and a moon shining through warning clouds
so the light shines just so on your brow
and stars reflecting in your eyes when your realized
you loved me and said so

no, don’t go there or that way

do not burn any more goodbye notes
do not bury any more love notes
do not kite any more wishes
or write any more love poems

remember to let it all go
even if the very breath
you take
belongs there
not here, in these notes
of false promises
and wry wrestling with reality.

    excellent

this made me think as it hit a personal chord

i am in the process of trying to write letters to people from the past -not to send as i don't know where they are or even if they are alive but to seek closure on some painful issues. I will burn them and they will take the hurt and pain away

thank you for the wry reality... i needed to hear it

I do sweats, as is our way, and that heat burns that residual "stuff" off and allows built-up things a way to pour out. It has been some time and I need a spring cleaning I think. That is dear and divine work you are doing, my friend, very powerful and freeing.....burnt it high and burn it long!
