I had a biology teacher, Mr. Calaway.
He took us out to the Witchita Mountains Wildlife Refuge
and we'd examine the grass
and burns from fires
One day, he took us out there
and we went to the place we called
"Bat Cave" because of the bat cave
you can see from the site
When we pulled up,
Calaway pointed at a lone longhorn
and said, "Before we get off,
can you tell me what the danger is?"
Everybody said, "The longhorn."
"Good," said Calaway, "Now I don't want
anybody getting near him
because longhorns are dangerous
especially when they're alone.
So, don't get near him at all."
So, we got off the bus
and we were studying the soil
from a controled burn one year before.
I was nelt down my Ryan
when I heard Jordan hollar my name
Without thinking, I stood up real fast
and turned around
about three feet infront of me(I think)
was the longhorn
For a few minuets,
we just stood there.
I whispered to Ryan
to stay still
and not to make any sudden movements
Calaway looked up and saw it
and he yelled at us to get out of there
So, I cautiously took a step back
then he took off
and started bucking
as he ran
I knew the Lord was there that day
protecting me from that longhorn
The next day in class,
Calaway described it as,
"The student was almost shiscabobbed
from that longhorn and I'd have to explain to the parents
what happened. This student would've died
because there was no hospital anywhere near
where we were."
I just know He was there
but that was four years ago
and to this day,
I still haven't properly thanked Him
So I will now.
Thank you, God for saving me that day.
I'm sorry I haven't properly thanked you
but you know I do
Thank you for everything
and the other things You saved me from
even when I didn't notice
that You saved me.
I pray that You forgive me
for everything. Thank you.
Amen.
Author notes
This is a story of four years ago when I had Mr. Calaway for Biology I in 9th grade. He took us out to the refuge all the time and I loved it. Just being out there with the wildlife and enjoying everything that I saw. If I hadn't gone out there that day, then I never would've witnessed a miracle like that. I thank God for that and for saving my life. I hope you enjoy this and thanks for reading.
