The Little Buzz-Fly and the Waltzing Ballerina

Missing image

To be read to the melody of: Oblivious Quintinius de Notatium .
Reading this without the music would be like watching a silent ballet...

Pray, a moment here,
where I will tell you (buzz)
of a little buzz-fly near: (buzz)

Hear? (buzz) His little heart beats
for a ballerina dear… (ding buzz)

Hear her lovely dance songs,
ballerina, gently floating in the air…
How he’d be dancing!
                        in his dreams!
                                with ballerina, in the air!
air…
    (…buzz-buzz-buzz…)

Heavenly,
    Charmingly
        gracious and…

              Fresh!
                    Captivating,
                              Fair!
                                  Radiating,
                  with
her
    little fly (that's me!)

Daydreaming-
          oh, so close,
                lifting her high…

as we would fly-

                -among the clouds…
                                            -under the moon…
                            -across the stars…
Just her and I
          Dancing in the sky…
                            in the sky…
        the
              sky…

Dreaming…
      I’m dreaming,
I leap with her high! (buzz-buzz-biz!)

        Higher… (buzz)
            and higher… (buzz)
                  ballerina
  and her fly…

Enchanting…
        --PROCLAIMING!--

“Me, and ballerina (buzz)
            see us floating,
gently floating, (buzz) in the sky!”

“My lovely ballerina!
    Take this un-(buzz-buzz-buzz-buzz-buzzzzz-bizzzzz)
            expected dance with me-
                                and fly!

  (buzz!) “Lovely ballerina (buzz!)
                        Dancing (buzz!) gently,
floating (buzz-buzz-buzz-buzz-buzzzzz-bizzzzz)
                  freely in the sky…” (buzz)

(buzz)  “Lovely ballerina! (buzz-buzz!)
        dancing finely (buzz-buzz-buzz-buzz-buzzzzz-bizzzzz)
with me
    in the summer sky!”

(…low buzz-buzz-buzz
                            bizz…)

Free! Positively free!
              Absolutely free!
                          Pirouetting little buzzing fly!

                                    (ordinary, nothing special!)

Free! Ballerina, free!
              Delicate and free!
                          Ballerina and her little fly!

“Come!
  Ballerina, come!
      Let me take you
dancing on the tributary-currents of the sky!”

"Ring!
  Let the music ring!
          Let the music weave
                ballerina castles in our
                                    waltz-ing ball-er-i-na sky!"

Author notes

Contest Notes: wbiro
Inspiration: so I wrote this little 3/4 waltzing piece and was wondering what kind of poem to write to it's melody line. As I was pondering it in the car the violin began to sound like a little fly buzzing. So... Waltz = Ballerina, Buzzing = Fly, Humor/Wild Imagination/Screw-Image-and-Crowd = Me, and viola!

General Notes:
This piece represents a new direction for me (and anybody anywhere, I believe)- pieces you read to the melody, where the voice is in your head...

Painting: ballerina by ~paradegritar (on deviantart.com)
Music score- composed by me; performed by an invisible orchestra somewhere inside my laptop.

Technical Notes-
One way to play the music while reading is to right-click on music link and select 'new window', then you can read along with the melody...

I've been fine-tuning it since the honorable mention...

    Great write!

Oh my gosh this is so amazing! You are so talented I must say. The way that you have completely combined your own musical talent with your writing is wonderfully amazing!

    Now I will say that the combination of the music playing while trying to read is a little destracting just because I am a musical person so I like to listen to details in the music. ^_^;

    Great write and good luck!

    Sincerly,
    Em

Thank you for entering. I have tried a couple of times reading this while listening to the music, but each time lost track somewhere. Since this is a contest for poems, I will judge it on being a poem - a ballet without music can be quite satisfying to watch.

    However,

this, let's call it 'song', doesn't have a quality that allows it to stand alone well. Even ignoring all the buzzes, it is too repetitive.

I did like much the odelike feel this has, and some of the wording is quite lovely. I would suggest going a little more into detail, adding some more imagery, rather than just saying 'dance, fly, like a ballerina' if that makes any sense.

To be honest this is not really my thing, as they say, but saying that, I'm sure it will appeal to children, especially with some music added. I agree that the pictures are gorgeous.

    Cute

Charming little buzz fly.flying around with Ballerina.I liked Me and Ballerina see us floating dancing in the sky.Perhaps this poem would be like me listening to music and dancing with my dog.I never dance with a fly.I found the title interesting. I liked the first part imagine a fly so smitten by the ballerina.he seems to think there are castles in the sky. This a cute, charming, kind of funny.little poem. very nice job.I didn't try the music, i'll check back in and see if i can get it.

thanks, Bee gee... the music I did is somewhat classical, if that gets your interest... (fitting for a ballet, even!)

how've ya been, suseann? Now two minutes of (quality!) music takes about 30-40 hours, so don't go wondering what I've been doing lately... Hope you've been A-OK...
