Healed by a Broken Heart
It is hard to admit such a deep and vital flaw
But it is true ...before I met her…I had lost something
It wasn’t obvious; not something anyone ever saw
But my willingness to love had faded nearly to missing
I never thought I would lack desire
That certain inner interest in outer attraction
Never thought I would lose the special fire
The wanting, seeking and the breathless passion
A virtuous woman of great strength of will
And so unlikely… it was such an odd thing
Once she verbally slapped me... I honestly felt a thrill
It all came rushing back and in the wake of the sting
My eyes were opened wider, so suddenly
My smile was much more relaxed and real
My work became more important and urgent to me
Even my writing had more life ... more zeal
Our lives are separated by walls of many kind
Distance, youth, and inclination are some of the ways
But where we connected in spirit and of mind
Has been memorable by the measure of my days
Together we wrote some lyrics… didn’t take very long
About a country singer with a broken heart
A man of whom we sadly said ”she done him wrong”
But there he learned so well to sing the sad love part
So I guess I should have saved that day
The soul of a good woman gave me a new start
Now it seems I have learned that very same way
It is so revealing, yes…healed by a saddened heart

Dang this is angsty.... it began like so many but that verbal slap stopped me...and was impacted further by the sad coutnry song..... whew...I am half-liking this and half-not....lol....but that is what poetry is supposed to do, right? Provoke!

i notice a piece that seems to hit or miss nothing in between

This is indeed a lovely piece, comes from your heart, once broken by love but can always be healed by a heart full of love for the author. We all search for meaning in our lives, a little love, patience and understanding, we may not get all three, but one is a good start.
