Thermometer.

fly agaric smiles and an out-of-body experience
sundials that had shadowed your vampireking hips and backward clocks
ticking my thoughts into oblivion
and a forgotten five minutes ago that you gathered into bleeding palms
i felt like tinkerbell in a memory lapse
with eyes like a tsunami and a pot-flowered mind
chased with stale cigarettes and the hollowness of needles(&pins
to keep these faerie wings down)
the needles were just polystyrene morbidity
guarding me from the way your pupils were scar-lined
and our kisses were so diaphanous
tucking me away into apocryphal encryptions
ticking and numbered like secondhand minutes and underhanded policies
and all i wanted
was sugarplumfaerie-mygoditsteenage-beatniklove
boulevard-dream kisses and a swollen sense of morality
but what i had
were bubble-gum soda-pop-fizzy pills that i hoarded and took in mass quantities
claiming they were a good mood and our love compressed in capsules
of a dizzy kind of beauty i didn't think existed
and i took them singing a requiem mass for each shadow holding your bones together
and each one i left in your thought process
because i wanted you to think i was more irreplacable
than i really was
but i didn't want to let you on to the nymph/sylph secrets
i was holding behind my back.

i just didn't think you would think twice about being gone.
