In Valhalla (Villanelle)

In Valhalla, great Odin’s hall

The slain warriors forever stay

Here awaiting Odin’s call

Spears of fallen warriors cover the wall

Warrior spirits loyalty waiting to convey

In Valhalla, Great Odin’s hall.

Armed for battle, they give their all

Gate of Valgrind open, this they pray

Here awaiting Odin’s call.

Assist Great Odin, they shall not fall

Bravery and courage light their way

In Valhalla, Great Odin’s hall.

No act of courage ever too small

On to Asgard they never stray

Here awaiting Odin’s call.

Legends of warriors history we recall

But none were ever so mighty as they

In Valhalla, Great Odin’s hall.

Here awaiting Odin’s call.

I loved your description of Valhalla and Odin. Though I found it to be talking more about Valhalla though. I still enjoyed it. Good luck and good write.

Thanks again for your wonderful words. To me I guess Odin and Valhalla seem to go together, sort like peas and carrots. I always hear of the two together. Although I know they weren't they just seem to fit.

This is very good. It took me back to when I was a child. I remember reading everything I could about norse mythology. I was very interested in it for some reason. I loved the imagery. I could see them standing in the hall. Love this!

Oh, this is lovely!!! To combine mythological facts and blend it with form poetry means you are Brigid blessed! Very nice imagery and rhymes. Congratulations on the Bronze! This is beautiful...I have not yet penned a villanelle and appreciate good form poetry. Very glad to have read this on this lovely day. Happy Valentine's Day!

Villanelle, my favorite,I love writing in this form and it's not often enough that you get to read them. You have brought together a difficult form and mythology and done a really good job, As the lines intertwine it still makes sense and the flow is good. Well done and good luck in the contest. Val

    Great

You did a wonderful job creating this villanelle. I like how you used mythology and made it your own, in the form of a poem. My favorite part was the last stanza because I feel it puts everything together.

"Legends of warriors history to recall
But none has ever so mighty as they
    In Valhalla, Great Odin’s hall.
Here to wait for Odin’s call."

    Good job and good luck

    I Love It

I have a deep feeling for Odin since he was the father of Thor...the greatest of all. You did a great job of historical facts blended with verse.

I love this form. I am trying to learn more of them, but this was not even about how the words fit together but how the flow to me was not in one direction. it was sort of like being rocked back and forth. very comforting and i thought that it was just a beautiful piece. good luck in the contest.
