You know who you are, and even if not
you hold forever a piece of me
and what it is for lust and love
The elusive four, how you've never met
and rightfully so, in my eyes
for you stand in line like milestones in life
apart and upright, like soldiers on call
and every other date and kiss and ill-thought wish
blur before and after these men
I cite your names like a graduation line
or a group of heroes to wait and fight
I write them down like old memories
and continue on like life
Number 1, here's to you
may you never know the depth of my heart
may the world treat you well, and the new girls, too
for we were young, and I was in love
And number 2, here's to you
in remembrance of every tear and scream
and trembling sigh
here's to karma, as well as time
here's to maturing away from the boy I met
And number 3, we'll let it be
we had our moment, our moment passed
but don't forget to look back on this
and remember just what you had
But number 4, there's nothing to say
but a kiss on the lips and a hearty goodnight
we may bicker like children and clash like gods
but finish it off with a laugh and joke
because Prince Charming has never been what I had needed
and I like my knights in shirts and slacks
