a reason

Missing image

a reason

pleading to God in my quest
I have always done my best
to look beautiful for you
yet your thoughts I never knew

I have always done my best
but I could not pass your test
for beauty I proudly stood
to blossom as I should

to look beautiful for you
with your cleavers you have sheered
is there nothing I can do?
pruned be back as I had feared

yet your thoughts I never knew
you really had a reason
twice is the beauty that grew
and flourish for next season

Author notes

God always prunes us to improve us.

Like so many other French forms, the retourne is all about repetition. It contains four quatrains (four-line stanzas), and each line has eight syllables. The trick is that the first stanza's second line must also be the second stanza's first line, the first stanza's third line is the third stanza's first, and the first stanza's fourth line is the fourth stanza's first. Retournes do not have to rhyme.

A reason for every thing and a time for every reason. Many that we will never know of or understand. For His design is often shrouded and obscured by the mists of time. Yet sometimes His hand moves to protect and guide those in dire need.
Very well done write in this form. It is very uplifting and stylish.
Thank you for entering into this contest.
    Be well and be blessed,
    Mouser

This is so very lovely and well done! The form is so true and it says so much from within, she will love it. She is an angel to all that know her, soft spoken and shy, yet a giver to all. Her health has been poor, but this surgery has taken a hold and she needs support and REST! LOL She does not know rest.
This brought tears to my eyes reading, for I know how she is and how this will feel to her.
    Beautiful job!
Thank you so much for writing it for her.
    Love

Such a truism! When we think we have given up all we can for the sake of the spirit, another egobotomy takes place and we are once again pruned back. The difference between us and the plants, however, is that the more pruning is done to us the faster we grow! Outstanding and worth three pirate bunnies that'll not only swab ye decks, but'll keep ya comp'ny on a cold night in the lonely cabin!
