My Soldier, My Son - Sgt. (IG) Reuben N. Ingebritson

He joined the Army to see the world.
Then to war he went, his duty to fulfill.
Watched him grow, from child to man.
I saw him change - to help him deal,
with all the pain he sees in the world.

A man today, strong and proud.
He sees the world through soldier eyes.
"I do what I do, this land to make safe."
His words ring loud through time and space.
I love him so, I want him safe.
But my soldier boy knows his place.

There are those who say, this war is wrong.
Wrong or not, I cannot say.
I only know my boy is there, not because he want's,
but, because he must.
Hate the war, not my son.
Your support he needs, if this wars is ever to be done.

Your son is good and brave. We need to support these soldiers put in harms way. They need our prayers to keep them safe and sane. Thank you for this poignant poem.

    wow

I love this poem it has exactally what I ask for, I don't know how the mother's do it when their sons are there. so many of my friends have gone to war and I keep asking myself why this is happening. A soldier is the one who needs the support I agree with that whole heartedly. Good luck in the contest and I hope your son returns again unharmed and without the night mares so many soldiers retourn home with.

i hope you have many safe returns ♥ and i agree with you in this poem-whether the war is wrong or not-that doesnt matter-you got to love your troops, for they are doign a duty that only few can do and they do it without complaints or sighs, they do what they do because they take orders and try to keep america's freedom alive. thanx for enterinfg & good luck!

I found this to be a very sad entry into a contest about the evils of war. It is no good saying "hate the war but not the men fighting it". If there were no volunteers for the armed forces, guess what? No wars. It is interesting that two countries spent the highest %age of their GDP on their armed forces: the USA and Israe. Guess which two countries are most disliked and criticised internationally? You got it.

    Thought Provoking poem

I understand what your going through as I had a son who fought in the 1991 gulf war,in the British Royal Navy.I support the Coalition Troops, but my views on the war have changed.Bring the troops home now, getting rid of Saddam was not the answer to Iraqs problem, and I now feel the majority did not welcome liberation. Please God your son comes home safe and sound.Take care.Moon Shadow.

Very powerful message. Wether people agree with the war or not, we should be filled with gratitude for the ones who are fighting for our freedom, while we sit comfortably over here. Beautifully written. Thank you for entering my contest.

As I am deployed for my third time, I would like to say you hit it right on the head Support the SOLDIERS does not mean you support the war.

EXCELLENT write. My thanks to your son for doing his duty even if he feels it's wrong or right. It is not easy for our youth of today with so many joining the military and going off to war. My wishes for his safe return. great write.

This is really great. A friend of mine is going into the military as soon as he graduates highschool and needless to say, I'm terrified.
Great write.. it's relatable and there's great emotion.
