Prayer to overcome fears

Prayer to overcome fears

Allah, thank You for a God fearing girl
who makes me content in this corrupt world.
You can be lame, have no legs or no face
or be pretty, like my darling, my taste.
Will you love me when I am an old man
and my back bends where I may need a hand.
Will you touch me still when she is fifty
and I sixty seven not then nifty.
Will you forgive any infirmity.
Will your kiss then, oh, last eternities.
Will you thank God listening as God says
to still put your hands through my hair when gray.
Growing more beautiful each day I know
I will do all this for you as I grow.

Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari

Author notes

I had a conversation about fears and I have to admit I too have fears and here they are.

Such a sweet heart you have, my brother. Yeah, we muslims pray for people we love and I know the way you love your Sahabah. Being thankful and grateful is so good. Such loves can’t be earned easily and I know the value of it.
Thank you for sharing your poem with us and don’t forget me, too, from your duas :-)

    Dear Son:
To write or voice your fears is the first stage towards letting them go. The depth of your love should act as a balance against your fears which are more about your doubts than your fears, if you look carefully at them.
Your poem is beautiful. I wish I could reply in poetry of such beauty, but alas, I can't. Prose will have to do.
Behind everything is your faith which will carry you through every challenge you may meet.
    blessings and love, Mum.

Mum thanks for your thoughful words...

It is said even a blind squirrel runs into a nut at least twice a day and I am glad for what the moment brings taking each moment on its own merit. Her fears might be greater than my own but notwithstanding to me mine are important. I know you are an inspiration for me because of what you said about your own situation and the spread of years which I won't repeat here but it also made me happy that you saw perhaps a light which is what hope is about. Sahabah is a fine spirit and a wonderful soul and that should count for something in life. The fact she is beautiful too is icing.

Fears vanish when faced, love moves with mysterious ways, still the heart is blind, as to our gods we pray. Great poem John

    Beautiful and Moving

This is quite beautiful, Abdul; for it sets out what is really important in a relationship, and what we see with our eyes is not what it is all about. Thank you for directing me to this wonderful poem.

    Much love in Christ,
    B♥nnieQ

The sweet and spiritual whisperings of love, but love in all its simplicity is divine and to truly love means never noticing growing old for in your heart and soul you are forever young.

Don't we all pray for similar things - someone to love us when we grow old, to care from us when we are ill and to be there no matter what? Well written.

    beautiful!

How moving, how beautiful, the devotion here displayed in expressing love for a lifetime, no matter what sickness, amputation...Loves fears "Will we love each other for a lifetime?" no matter what? "Will affection still be there?" Beautifully portrayed through your imagery Abdul.....I have no doubts that you and Sahabah are made for each other,,,if she is anything like you in tenderness and kindness....Wonderful write...every word!

    Oh my sweet....

I will love you forever into eternity
For you are a gift from God, you see.
I will love you when you have no hair,
when I run my fingers through, there's none there.
I will rub the flesh of your bald head,
no running fingers through, kissing baldness instead.
I will love you when the only physical attribute that's the same...
is the way your eyes sparkle when I call out your name.
I will love you forever into eternity
for you are a gift from God, you see.

    xoxo
    Sahabah

This is a nice little poem you wrote! I'm to see you writing. And I think that it's great to share your thoughts and your fears but I also pick up a lot of hope in this poem. And a lot of wishes to have everything turn out for the best when you try hard. Lestways, that's how it reads to me. I thought you did a great job of this.

I pray a lot and especially now

    I bow my head
    asking only to serve
    before God I'm lead
    to what believers deserve.
