Main Street

I took a ride down Main Street
to see what I could see
but nothing looks the same at all
as what it used to be.

The times have changed it all around
and everything looks new
and all of our old hang-outs
are gone, but just a few.

Time changes not just people
but all the places, too
and many of our memories
will only make us blue.

We have to make new memories
and friends to fill our time
the old ones are just pictures
that we have within our minds.

Author notes

When we go back to 'visit' old memories, so many things have changed and we realize that our memories are just pictures in our minds.

You have done a great job describing my home town. So many of the old hang outs are now gone for newer buildings. The really sad part is that no one seems to have any pictures of the old building either.
Thank you for this contest entry.

We have to make new memories/and friends to fill our time. Very true. I haven't been back to my home town in years but my brother and I went to a little village where we used to go to Sunday school when we were very young. It seemed so small!!

    HW. Good for you.

I just recently moved back to the town I graduated in (it's a temporary move, I think) - but I can't get over how nothing looks the same! My mind remembers things that aren't here anymore....lol.
      Thanks.

Thanks Rob! Everything seems to change so much. When you go back to 'visit' the past - it's moved into the future and hard to 'connect those dots' again.

Thank you 'cynthia' for the wonderful comment and applause.
It's sad sometimes when you go back and visit your old 'haunts' and they've changed so much.

From near dirge to voice of hope. You've done it again, and ended with stirring and provocative messege. "The memories I'm going to make.", true prize, true wisdom. Bravo! Again. This was MUCH liked.

Thank you, and for the applause also. Yeah, it's kind of sad revisiting the old hang-outs - and they're gone, just like the people you 'hung-out' with. Just pictures in the mind.

Love it! Most of us who are old enough to own memories have done exactly this. Visiting old haunts is rarely a rewarding experience. Far better to drag out old photos and remember it as it was. Skillfully rhymed and a very enjoyable read - thanks.

Very nice write boomer, memories and times past wonderful things to hold on to progression is the way of all things though we move with the currents of life
paddling, drifting, motoring, sailing and yes sometimes the land marks change, the shore lines become relandscaped but it is us who see with our eyes who travel with these hearts aye thats the journey, and the most wonderful change of all, us in our insights and knowledge and wisdom good write!!!!
