And I Know That.

In a room full of people,
The noise is electrifying,
The chatter and the laughter,
All the joy it could bring.

And all the music and dancing,
All the happiness and love,
All memories and the past,
All the people we spoke of.

And I know you would've loved it there,
I know you would've been proud,
And it hurts to not be able to say,
All these things out loud.

And I know you would be proud of us,
For the way that we've turned out,
And I know you'd see our future,
And what we're all about.

And I know that if you could,
Then you'd be here,
And I know you would've joined in,
And maybe shed a tear.

And I know that I was a little girl,
And I know I don't remember,
And I know none of us will ever forget,
That cold and painful December.

And I know that it's been a long time,
I know it's been years,
And I know in that time,
We've shed too many tears.

And I know that he can't believe,
That I still don't know,
And after all that time with you,
You're memories are fading slow.

And I know he sees you in me,
I know you're there in him too,
And I know you're never far away,
And I know we'll always love you.

And I know you were the person we looked up to,
The person we aspired to be,
And I know there are so many aspects of you,
And your spirit still lives in me.

And I know you would've loved it,
I know you would've been proud,
And I know you would've laughed,
And entertained the entire crowd.

I know you would've talked,
And I know they would've loved you,
And I know they would remember you,
The way that we still do.

Author notes

After spending time with family I tend to get nostalgic. I know this poem isn't particualary prize worthy, wonderful or even poetic. But it's a message of love to two people who shaped my life, who made me the person who I am. I was eight when my Nana died & eleven when my Grandad died. After nearly ten years I still think of them every so often, they will always have made a difference in my life. And I will always love them, family's forever, I truly believe that.

Is a really sweet and touching poem, its always hard when someone close to you passes but it does feel good to think of them watching over us.
No matter how long it has been the memories always remain with us, there to make us laugh cry or smile.
    Great poem

dont ever think you poetry isnt worth a prize

this is a beautiful piece that you should be very proud of. im glad to have read it as it has refreshed the feelings i have of rembrence of my two great grandparents that have passed. it seems that no matter how many years drift by and no matter how many memories seem to fade, you know them still like they were still here, like they just visited yesterday.
