Rocking Chair Memories

Let’s make rocking Chair memories
Of candles on Christmas trees,
Of spinning angels chiming bells
And happy baking pastry smells.
While needles dance on vinyl plates
Let’s celebrate the Holy dates.

Let’s make rocking Chair memories
Of happy childhood fantasies;
With mom and dad and family,
Wrapped gifts beneath the tinseled tree…
The Yuletide fire’s burning strong
Let’s gather round and sing along!

Let’s make rocking Chair memories.
Don’t look beneath the leafless trees
Where children shiver as they freeze,
Hide the scars and swat their fleas;
Where father hits and momma’s drunk
And Christmas gifts are cast off junk.

Let’s make rocking Chair memories
While lonely children try to please;
Striving to be good because
They too believe in Santa Clause.
They confuse his scornful stares
And still believe that Santa cares.

Let’s Make Rocking Chair memories
Of sharing some of Christmas Eves’
Many blessings with a child
Poor and meek and hurt and mild
And at the risk of feeling good,
I might suspect that Jesus would
Appreciate that you might cede
His birthday gift to those in need.
While needles dance on vinyl plates
Let’s celebrate the Holy dates.
The Yuletide fire’s burning strong
Let’s gather round and sing along!

Author notes

It has come to be a tradition that each year I create a little Christmas bon-bon, sometimes sweet, sometomes bittersweet, for the enjoyment of my special friends. Well, circumstancs this year prevented me from finishing my poem in a timely manner. In fact, in draft, it seemed pretty well not worth doing. A good friend convinced me otherwise, it seems she saw merrit where I had doubts. So, in defference to a more enlightened opinion, I gave it another go.

So for those who would have preferred their Christmas poetry before the actual holiday, please accept my sincerest apologies. For those overly dismayed, keep in mind that this poem might also be considered 10 months early. And for everyone else, there really is no reason that the spirit of Christmas can't last beyond a singular date on a calander.

Season's greetings,
(can't go wrong...there's always a season)

~RJ~

    I liked it. An encouraging message set in poetry. Evokes that sense in us to help others.

    I agree with you, there is always a season to celebrate. I fact, I enjoy reading Christmas poems when Christmas isn't around. Your poem doesn't show only a happy or sad side, you (((entwined))) different imageries of different situations. I like the thought of needles dancing on vinyl plates. I liked the poem. Thanks for this Summer Christmas feeling

    Talented Pen!

    This wonderous ditty could very well become a standard verse for times immortal. You've composed one fantastic nitty gritty heart felt piece with this. Not lifeless and lackluster as most related generic recycled best holidays wishs others.And nothing more note worthy than the point of it's message needing voiced year round either. It should be. Loved this belated/not! for-get-me-not special piece!~Slow her self Slue foot Suses/Suseann
