Belili

Belili

O how I bask in my insatiable need
to feed on the foul deeds locked in the purulent
crevasses of your festering depraved mind.

How long did you think you could shroud
the feeble atrocities that condemned
you to the pit of my netherworld?

I hiss in a symphony of hilarity
as my vigil sucks the pathetic
                           life from your carcass.

Watching you writhe in eternal pain
as the separation of your debauched soul
  squints as it is ripped

                      from your pathetic body.

The pungent aroma of sulfa and vulcanized flesh
will remain in your nostrils for all eternity.

You will savor the taste of your own vomit
                                 as it is profusely sweeter
than the deeds for which you are condemned.

                                    Welcome to your hell.

Belili
(from Wikipedia)
'Belili' was first a Sumerian minor goddess called Gesht-inanna, sister of Dumuzi, and wife of Nin-gishzida (the door keeper of An). She was later included in the Babylonian pantheon with the name of Belili or Belit-ili (also spelled Belet-ili), acquiring in some time a much higher status as the wife of Bel (the Assyrian and Babylonian equivalent to Baal). The Canaanites called her Baalat or Baalit, the wife and female counterpart of Baal. As the wife of Bel she can be associated with Ishtar for Assyrians and Babylonians, with Astarte for Semites, and with Asherah for Philistines; in this sense Belili can also be associated with sacred prostitution and human sacrifice (of children, by fire). Some authors, however, relate her with Lilith, who is commonly

Again I admire the mythological purpose of this write, and feel that this could be strewn into a woven book, like a mordernised divine comedy, I can feel the earth roil with this write... Well done.

I personally haven't the least bit idea of what the religion you speak of is... but the poem was well written and quite powerful so nice job! Good luck in the contest!

I like this a lot... I have a moderate knowledge of the Sumer religion, but am always looking to expand, so thank you for the lesson.

So many dark words, and such anger... Yes, that is what I was looking for! Good luck, and well done!

Belili almost has an air of respectability. She is not so much luring as she is feeding on mens pre-existing debauchery. It would probably turn all of us women into lesbians if men ever told us exactly what was on their minds? And like they say like attracts like, so he is has created his own demise...

Another new one for me! I'm enjoying these new series of very fascinating demons/creatures! Another one I have to look up! Wikipedia is great isn't it? A very well presented write, I thoroughly enjoyed the imagery and metaphor and am hoping to read some more of these in the future.

A new word, a new word! I had never seen 'purulent' so went and looked it up - nicely used!! I find it interesting you've referenced vulcanized flesh twice, in two different works, - a nod to strength of the shell, is how it plays to me but also as it is rubber, pliable, like a mask and what hides beneath a mask? Sorry, tanget thinking there, hehe.

    and a history lecture too...

good write. you obviously have a style all your own, sinister, sadistic, and sensual. you danced in and out of a haunting scene and practically made me cringe by the vomit line. im a fan of all well-done poetry, and this is no exception. you did, however, start out a little wordy, trying for dramatic effect and slightly overstepping yourself and entering the audaciously verbose.

great work either way and your music provides a great ambiance for the piece. just noticed that.
