The Language

Poetry speaks a language
Obviously all its own,
Entrancing us with stories at times
Tragically bemoaned.

Comprised of such things as
Synonyms and metaphors,
This versatile vernacular
Has been around since days of yore.

So if you are intrigued with
Expressionistic communication,
Especially if you’ve experienced a
“Certain exhilaration,”

I say, “Search deep in your heart,
Resolve to endeavor,
And you’ll likely compose verse
That others find clever.”

    Thank you for your entry.
This poem clearly explains your view of what poetry is and does so in an amusing and even a stylish fashion.
It uses poetic form and language to describe poetry in a way that I enjoyed reading.
What it failed to do was give me a clear understanding of what you feel is the point of poetry and why it exists. It also lacked references to other poems or other poets as requested in the competition description.
In short this is a good poem that I am glad to have had the opportunity of reading but I feel it is out of place in the current competition.

    Intelligent and witty

Search deep in your heart! Yes indeed. It is tormenting for me at times! Well written and giving something to ponder and reflect on.
    And I will.
    Nicely penned.

      On, "The Language."

Thank you young lady for your comment. I know, yore was sort of corny, but, at the time it was all I could think of that rhymed with metaphors I'm afraid, and, I'm a bit of a romantic.
