Protect This House

This house is buried deep-
it is my secret of secrets.
I hide things within it
no living mortal has seen.

This fortress is made beyond stone-
it is made of intertwined thoughts-
a network of ideas
I have carefully pieced together.

The door to my house is open,
I await you within.
I will host you graciously,
feed you, entertain you, respect you.
But it is still my house,
and you are still a guest.

My fortress seems impregnable,
but I will shelter you,
protect you, guard you, vouch for you,
but you cannot expose the holes in my foundation.
You are bound as my guest.

But the wild west wind
sweeps in with its filth
and shreds the roof of my house-
you come with a firebrand
and try to torch my house.
The door is still open
and the rising wind fans the flames.

You secrete attackers in
under my watchful gaze
and tear my fortress down from within.
I am unprotected, vulnerable,
and aghast that my guest could do such a thing to me.

I beat out the flames,
drive away the attackers,
all under the power of my own will.
I turn and face the open door,
and sadly shut it tightly,
bolt it, lock it, chain it to the frame.

As a guest you betrayed me.
I only return the favor.

You are no longer welcome here.

This is really sorrowful. It's heartbreaking and bitter and it's really sad. I like the imagery of the winds and fire. The use is vivid and very effective for the use of a type of scorn and scrutiny that you will come under. The metaphor used is excellent and this is very much something that I was looking for. Nice work. Thanks for entering my contest. good luck.
