AWOL neurons no longer fire
The lost pathway remains unknown
Life’s road signs point out senseless names
As flight from reality soars.
The evening mist covers his thoughts
Within the confines of a mind
That deserted him years ago
Vacated without his consent.
Ancient memories ignite him
Along names and places once seen
On the map of a shadow life
Waiting for the direction back.
Author notes
This is about my husband, who had a cerebral hemorraghe and no longer remembers many things. He knows me, but is uncertain at times at who I am. Tonight I was Mom.
