The Final Goodbye

a shudder of body a gasping of air
grew tired of thinking that life was not fair
his kidneys are failing along with his lungs
he knows and understands that his time has come
ignoring the good he has done for so long
he begs for forgiveness for those he has wronged
he remembers the bad times he had with his wife
but forgets all the good times they once had in life
his moments of weakness will flash through his mind
he now knows that some wounds don't heal over time
to painful to do so he put it on wait
and gets the job done, now that it's to late
his life would have been such a far better place
but why should he hurry? It isn't a race
he knows that this problem is causing a strain
but in no rush to fix it, it just causes more pain
the days become weeks, the months into years
and as he lays dying, he pleads out of fear
he pours out all the problems that broke his heart
and now that he's dying he wants a new start
as an act of respect his family forgives
and as he lays dying, it's the best he has lived
