Oath Breaker

Damned in the age of Golden Dawn
days of power and secret worship
from covens formed in regent times
and turn of the century darkness
The Great Beast devoured the book
and the silent oath and the bond
to protect brother and sister all
against harm for all time.

The astral plane made red and black
replacing Mathers to destroy
and open the dawn to Gardner.
Carelessly gifts were spilled
and taken up by others who
helped transform dark to light,
light to dark again and again.

Author notes

Merry Meet

I've been a practicing solitaire for 20 or so years.

Aleister Crowley (1875 - 1947)
Some call him misunderstood but I still call him an Oath Breaker due to the fact he did take and publish some of the content the original BOS of the Golden Dawn and even destroyed the coven by his will alone.

Even good can come out of something bad.

Warlock by definition is one who is male and practices black magick, demon, or oath breaker. I do hope that people here understand that a male witch is simply put a male witch, not a warlock.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/warlock

1. a man who practices the black arts; a male witch; sorcerer.

[Origin: bef. 900; ME warloghe, -lach, OE wǣrloga oathbreaker, devil, equiv. to wǣr covenant + -loga betrayer (deriv. of léogan to lie)]

Great piece! I'm afraid I know little of Crowley, though I have heard of him; I'll have to do some research now, you've piqued my curiosity! Yes, I understood the definition of warlock, but didn't make it clear... thanks for the note! Thanks also for entering such a great piece in my contest; good luck!

LOL...I know a lot do..but the word is so over used now a day for male witch that it just makes me crazy..it's a pet peeve of mine..so the poem is not so much for the contest, or you, but just to let others know. A male witch is just that..a witch. LOL

Thanks for the contest. I really enjoyed having something to sink my teeth into for once. Sometimes it feels like it's all been said, over and over again.

      Blessings
