Description : An essay explaining why I think it's Important To Be A Writer.
I think being a writer has taught me a lot. It has taught me to have a little more patience and to try to enjoy the more finer things in life. Before in my life as a non-writer and just a reader I was more apt to get angrier faster and give up allot easier. Those are not good qualities to have if you want to make your self a sucessful writer. A friend of mine told me while I was writing a poem and I was stuck on a line that rome wasn't built in a day and Shakespeare didn't write his sonnets or plays in a day. That was the most true statement I've ever heard to be great it takes time and effort. When I'm writing a simple poem it feels like that the time and effort I put into the poem it doesn't matter. But unknown to me it does and by writing that small poem it may not be great but by writing that poem it's making me just that much better.
A poet and his pencil can become real good friends if they understand one another. You can't become a good poet if you don't have an open mind and calmed soul for the moment. Many people say that the calmed soul wouldn't deal with me because my poetry is really dark at times and very light at times. I think that's why a lot of people like my writing because both dark and light people can relate to it.
The last thought wasn't me trying to make myself sound conceded. I think the poet and writer dwells inside of us all the writer is that person in the deepest and darkest part of your soul. Most of the time he wants to come out but we can't let him come out because we don't know how to use him.
My journey as a writer it started back in grade school when I got into Cartoons and Sci-Fi flicks and yes that does include Star Wars. I started writing these crappy stories based on my favorite characters and than my imagnation took off and sent me to very wondrous places.
If you can't let your imagination roam every once and while.Than why do you become a writer? Because as a writer it is your job to let your imagination roam and bring these ideas to life on the pages for your readers.
The writer has always lived inside of me. I just never really knew how to control him. I'll have like one good idea in a year and I'll go on it and my idea will turn into something magnificent and than all my other ideas will be crap.
I think that's because I try to do too much to soon.
I mean after I finish a successful story I'll want to go and writer another and make it so much better. It is the fact that I'm a perfectionist when it comes to writing I want to do something better than I did before.
But when you flashes of inspiration there isn't really much you can do. You can either run with it or let it fade away.
Personally, I like to run with those flashes of inspiration!
The whole reason for me becoming a writer is really simple.
I need a place to vent all my frustrations in the world and with myself. As a kid I was very shy and to this day I still am. But this writing stories and poems has opened a big door for me and my personality. Ever since I've started writing I've been a different person both spiritually and mentally. The only downfall now is that I get moodier easier. Don't ask me why but I think it's the pressure of putting out material that people will like and I also think it's the lack of confidence I have in myself.
I've found this sort of secret Utopia that only writer's find. I guess it's like our heaven a place where only our kind can go to relax and find inspiration. It isn't a real place but more of a mindset. The most comfortable place for me to be when I write is either in front of my computer or in the back yard under the tree. I'd sip my iced tea and twittle my pencil until I came up with something. Please note this doesn't always work but it's real relaxing in the summer! I'd also like to say that some of my influences are Edgar Alan Poe, Stephen King and even Hemingway.
I think I've said all I could say hope this offers some insight.
