Looking for a friend
Almost starved and mewling
In the cold March wind,
"I don't like cats" I told myself
But a little milk i will spare,
I'll give her shelter for the night
She can sleep in a box
On the stairs~
An unexpected snow fell
I had no heart to push her from her bed
A few more days would do no harm
At least that's what I said,
And sure enough no harm was done
To squirrels. birds, owner either,
Except eating my words~
She answers to the name of Socks
And sleep where she pleases,
Under a shrub outside
Or a quilt that gives her such ease
She's given more than she has took
By love that's plain to see
And life since Socks has came to stay
Is the only one for me~
