Being a politician
is pretty hard I guess,
the first thing you must learn
is never to say yes.
Now you start your campaign
find out what the people need,
and tell them you can give it to them
if you should succeed.
Then will come the speeches
asking them to vote for you,
you promise them a list of things
but don't say which are true.
Your title may be a bit different
whether M.P. or Senator applies,
you must be equally expert
at convincingly telling lies.
Once you are voted in office
that's when your troubles will start,
for now the reporters go hunting
and won't stop 'til they tear you apart.
The people now see broken promises
it's a problem you must address,
and your only line of defence is
you were misquoted by the press.

This is fucking amazingly true and I really like it! The flow was amazing! Thank you so much for your entry and good luck!
-
I can so relate to this. and with all the bull they give you one would think you could pull a dump truck up there and fertilize a thouand acres per speech lol

-
Awesome!
The second stanza is what hit me hardest I think. I've been keeping in touch with the current election...and I noticed I really didn't hear any promise to help the economy until people started whining about the economy. Did you think that was on any of the canadits' minds until someone said something? Ahem...no! Then they act like it was the soap box they've been standing on since day one.
It rhymed perfectly!
Thanks for entering.

Honest
An honest to true view of what todays politician is all about. Sadly their are still many who swoon over them like they were Elvis re-encarnate

awesome...and very true...to be a politician- you must be a very good liar! lol i enjoyed reading this poem. good luck &thanks for entering!

Written with a freeflowing rhyme, imbued with philosophy and truism, your poetry may parade proudly either side of the pond, whether bush or blair or a politician of any other name they are all grown up cowboys and leave us like horses wounded, feeling lame,as they pontificate and negate the people they are meant to represent,my rhyme may be a crime but each point I make is meant, three cheers then dear poet

Enjoy the satire...
...and the vain in which it's written. This is just as funny as that term invented by politicians: "plausible deniability", although much more creative and truthful.
Your artistic humor gives other's a voice.

neat
Good traditional rhyme and rhythm to poke fun at our age-old and current problem---the politician. Love the punchline...them too, yeah! Well done, and thanks for entering the Satire contest -
Hahaha Too Funny
Great job I think expressing yourself. Rhyme was good flow was smooth. Good job & Good luck ~Ron~ -
HAHAHA! oh, this is fantastic. I suppose politics must be more or less the same no matter where you go, but this is awesome. So true, especially around here. People vote the jerks in and then spend the next few years complaining about them. It's how we've gotta do it, though, I guess. This poem is just too true. And i LOVE the way you wrote this. It's wonderful. Keep it up!

So so true. A great understanding to the lies that are dished out every day. Nicely done.
-
I have to agree with Wayne, very true words you have penned here my friend.

Never a truer word said here. So so true about politcians and politics in general. I loved this one. Very funny as well. Keep writing, you have talent.

Yes - politicians and second hand car salesmen all go to the same prep school I think.
