Another Christmas has passed,
The wrapping paper stashed
In boxes to be hauled away,
But sweet memories will stay.
I love when my family gets together,
Sometimes it seems like it takes forever!
We see each other once a year,
And yesterday, that day was here!
We all talked at once, had a lot to say,
Expressing love, each in our own way!
Shared laughter, hugs and good cheer
Make me so happy this time of year!
Surrounded by people I love,
I prayed to God up above...
"When it's time for me to pass away,
I would like to leave on Christmas day!"
Author notes
I am blessed because I am able to enjoy visiting my family at Christmas without any stress about cooking, etc. Since I don't get out much, seeing everyone on Christmas day is a real delight!

This was such a touching and gracefully written piece. Loved reading it and glad you have many pieces on this list. Christmas is the only time of the year that brings out of me a vast array of emotions. I share in the wish that my passing on will be during that time. Though, I think my family would prefer a different time. My son and two granddaughters would be depressed. Maybe the month of January for me instead...lol. Not much happens then

Sometimes it does seem like it takes forever to arrive, especially for the little ones..and then once it gets here, poof, it's come and gone!!! LOL but thank goodness for the holidays, cos sometimes it's the only time we get to see some of our friends and relatives... An EXCELLENT write Maureen!!!

Christmas is a very good time to visit with family, but of couse any time is a good time to get together with friends and family. I really like the way that this one reads. Thanks so much for sharing it.

excellent
-----Remembering-----
Remaining in the mind,
A vision forever kind.
Ones, who can, endure,
Problem? The truer cure,
Family and true friend,
There...beyond our end.
Christmas time with family (and friends) is a memory which lives on beyond us. Those remaining will carry that memory fondly. -tj-

Family is so important to me. Do make an effort to keep in touch! When they are no longer here, your memories will mean so much! Thank you for reading and commenting, PSWV!

ditto to what waryDreamer said. I loved this... it touched my heart today

Thanks again to all who commented on this poem. I probably should have asked that no stars be given because I know this isn't one of my best efforts. I just wanted to communicate the happiness I felt on Christmas this year and the thought I had that it would be great to die surrounded by my family (the way it used to happen many years ago).

Like this very much, Andy

:-) Maureen, I definitely do enjoy this version more... I think it deserves another star from me. Unfortunately, I don't believe that I can rate with stars more than once. Good job and happy holidays.

Family, the most important thing! Without presents you were still blessed beyond measure in my opinion... Great poem! ~Melissa

Thanks for commenting, MS! Since my family gets together at my niece's house every year, I am spared the cooking, etc. This year I purchased my gifts in record breaking time and they were well received. I loved the gifts that were given to me. I was truly blessed and thoroughly enjoyed the food and my family. How lucky can I get?? I wish you a happy, healthy, prosperous new year! :-) Maureen

Ahhhhhh yes another Christmas gone. The anticipation, the hussle and bussle of gift shopping, the all day cooking ,and the mess to clean up afterwards. What a happy day it was! Time to start preparing for next year now.Nice write Maureen. Have a happy new year. MS

Personally, my Christmas wasn't all that great... But you did a nice job with this poem. I think you could have elaborated a bit more. The sentiment was felt, but there was a lot left unsaid.
-
I love this! I always said that when I die I want everyone to wear there party clothes and be happy because i'll be in heaven so why be sad!
-
Everyday should be Christmas - with these same emotions...but I guess we need the special days to really draw our attention to our real treasures in life. m

ahhh to die, got to love it!
