He comes in from the fields
with sweat on his brow
The years have taken their toll,
yet he pushes on
He misses her
unable to talk,
he looks out to
the spot where she lays
Hands locked around his
coffee cup
His fingers aching as
he releases his grip
Walking outside
he wipes a tear from his eye
Placing a kiss on a rose he picked
he places it on her grave, whispering,
"A rose, till we meet again"
In a list
Please tell me what you think

Captivating
You immediately capture the essence of the visual and pen a beautiful piece as if the words cascaded gently from the photo. Wonderful when I can feel the sense of having witnessed this myself. Made me think of my Italian Grandpa Dominico passed and his wife Rosa died, he screamed grasping her coffin, "ohhh my Rosa, don't leave me". He brought us all to our knees. This piece just felt deep and touching. Wonderful pen and my pleasure to read.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Although I have lost people in my life, this one was not a personal one. This was inspired by the pic. I do thank you for your expression of concern and compassion. It was so thoughtful of you.

A very melancholy poem indeed, one who missed his dear one dearly. The memories of loved one keep coming into the heart in toil and out of toil, the dimensions of which can be felt only by one who feels. A lovely poem sent to heavens for a loved one beyond the skies. This pain brings sweet memories some time to cherish. Thanks for sharing and also for your lovely comments on my poem...Venu

So touching
This is so sad and touching. I know my grandfather missed his wife so much. Now he is finally with her. Thanks for sharing.
As always I encourage you to keep writing to read and comment.

Wow, absolutely lovely. The lonliness and saddness hits straight to the heart. The picture is amazing too, it definitely adds to the emotion of the poem. But even without the pic this piece says so much about the human condition. What tender imagery with the hands around the coffee cup and the rose. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

This is soooooooooooo sad and equally as sweet. I love it so much! It makes me sad, but I love the last line! I would like it even a litle more if it were a little longer, though, I think. But still, great work!
