I weep

I held open the door for you today
A boy was with you
I would say no older than fourteen
He said thankyou as his nose bled
Dripping upon the grey linoleum
Leaving a path for all to follow
No words of thanks passed your lips
No eye contact
Your eyes passed through my forehead
And into the stark white
Of the wall beyond my figure
My eyes had raised to meet yours
Then fallen in dismay
Upon receiving no connection
They were stung by tears
Which somersaulted down my forlorn cheeks
And splashed into the blood below
My tears mingled with blood
Swirling upon the linoleum
Grey as your indifference
Now red as my devastation and humiliation
The redness will be swept away
And the memory will remain only with me
But the indifferent linoleum is permanent
And for that I weep

Please tell me what you think

    Well Penned

This is deep and powerful. I've always thought that outright hateful acts hurt less (you can always get mad yourself) than those little slights, being ignored, being treated as inconsequential. I am sorry if this is a personal write Lines #18 through #20 are my favorites, so eloquently sad. Keep penny Poetess, you have a talent for describing those little snapshots of people's lives that speak volumes.
