if you'll never underestimate
the genius that is me
if you'll go along with my little whims
even if it's to go out to sea
i might be able to say
"i love you"
if you can cope with the fact
that my life doesn't allow
being swept off my feet
and that i'm grounded like a plow
then i can never say
"i love you"
if you are able
to bear with me someitmes
to live through our poverty
when we hardly have two dimes
i might be able to say
"i love you"
if you understand that i need
someone to turn my whole life upside-down
to smile at me
even if i in return frown
i might be able to say
"i love you"
if you find a way to get my feet
off of the solid ground
and sweep me away even if
i've threatened to have you drowned
i might be able to say
"i love you"
if you'll heed these words
and seek me out
if you'll take this challenge
without a doubt
then i will be able to say
"i love you"
