Only Ten but the Sound of a Hundred

Only Ten, but the Sound of a Hundred

Smooth and slender, gracefully curved,
Powerfully gentle, fiercely soothing,
Their touch is a light coating of butter,
Yet each is individual, firm – like a bean,
They are agile and accurate, swift and acrobatic,
Their skills channel something greater,
Architects, painters, engineers, decorators,
Working together to create a masterpiece.
They are beautiful, to be treasured
Oh what I wouldn't give, for a set
Of pianist's fingers.

    WOW

yeahh.. i believe this is a piece that many people would never take the time to write.
It has the art of imagery that many people do not possess.
    Great Work

    Great Title

Great tribute. I have just come across a couple of ragtime CD's that I absolutely adore. At the opposite end of the spectrum I was listening to Rick Wakeman Master recordings last night. What a rush! His compositions are so classic yet contemporary yet futuristic yet something-still-else. I have collected as many Synthesizer CD's as I possibly can... Wendy Carlos, EL&P, Yes, Wakeman, Don Dorsey, Claude Bolling, etc. Jon Lord is another amazing artist. Ah, there are so many... but alas, I came here to comment on your poetry!

When I got up to architects, painters, etc. I went back to the beginning to see if I could deduce what you were driving at, but failed. Your ending was a good surprise and like you, I would love to have a set.

This was beautifully crafted from beginning to end. When I reached the end I was so taken that I had to read it again, now knowing the subject matter. I particularly loved line 8 and the analogy of the artist as an architect, etc. The only line that I found a little out of synch was #1..a light coating of butter. I would have preferred something that spoke of a gentle touch like velvet rather than greasy like butter. Otherwise I thought this was a wonderful poem. I will look for some of your other works.

    Gorgeous.

    ...but I know you're going to want more that that. ^^;;

This poem builds up like a piano piece- starting with a small but powerful line, and then all the rest slowly coming together to build a crescendo, which melds into the very end- startling and revealing. The subject is fresh, the imagery is very nice, and... hell, as an amatuer keyboardist, what /I/ wouldn't give for pianists fingers! They are truly a gift.

Wow, you're the second pianist/keyboard-ist that I've met here!

    Can hear the music

What an unusual write, however very nicely done. Great pen is just like music and by reading this; it is indeed music to the soul. I loved the imagery being an artist ones sees the rhythm in works of art. This piece has that melody with those silky
    Smooth and slender, gracefully curved,
    powerfully gentle, fiercely soothing,
their touch is a light coating of butter
Fingers. Fantastic and very well done. Huge thanks for taking the time out to read my very limited writing skills. Your comments go along way to enforce that positive feedback is indeed a gift and I appreciate them immensely.
Will read more when time is on my side.
