As I lie on my death bed, I start to wonder
Will he come up from hell, or down with a thunder?
Is he a dark being, or is he holy?
Reluctantly doing his job, rather boldly?
Maybe he finds joy in his dreadful duty,
Maybe it's his own art, his sense of beauty.
Taking the lives of those who's time has come
And stealing the souls of sinners who have cut themselves numb.
He himself could have once been mortal
And committed such a sin that brought him to the dark portal.
The place where a dark lord made him pay for the sin
Did he take the punishment with a moan or a grin?
Whatever his feelings, he must do his job
And reap my soul no matter how hard I sob.
Whether he does it with sadness or glee, we'll never know
But when it comes to the Grim Reaper, he sure puts on a show.
