Rowan's Hope

Rowan and Aeryck were the best of friends,
Brother and sister to the very end.
Aeryck traveled to lands in far away seas,
While Rowan stayed home, sick as can be.
Two days gone, a massive storm broke,
Sending Rowan through a haze of smoke.

Sitting atop a cliff looking long and tearfully,
Watching the horizon and worrying fearfully.
Joined by a girl, Kestral by name,
And Rowan’s hope burst into a mighty flame.

As a day passes, a ship comes to port,
But Rowan’s Aunt has nothing to report.
Three days gone, when Rowan gets a feeling,
Hurrying down the dock, Rowan’s glances stealing.
The two watch in silence as the sun rises,
Fishermen come out, to catch the biggest prizes.
When Rowan cries out “Ship ahoy!”
She and Kestral rush to a boat, a captain quick on their heels,
Rushing out to meet the ship's keel.

Upon reaching the ship, Rowan was the first aboard,
Screaming with joy at a sight of a mighty lord.
Her brother, alive after three months shipwrecked,
For Uncle Ranér had picked him up off an island unchecked.
Bringing Aeryck to his frantic sister in Frieta.

Crooning and soothing, Rowan’s love he regains,
Aeryck strokes her again and again.
Watching Kestral in wonder with his tear filled eyes,
Kestral wishing that love fell from the skies.
