Have you?

have you ever sat and forced yourself to write a poem?
have you ever told yourself "i need to write something reeeeal good"?
i most certainly have...
i most certainly have needed to...
in this day and age, i feel poetry is a very needed thing
in this day and age, poetry is a saving grace
it is something that lets out what wants out
it is a crack in the dam of emotion that we all have
you know, that one that stops us from screaming out in public?
you know what i'm talking about.
anyway, it seems that poetry is a staple of the intelectual(and sometimes the very idiotic) diet
Everyway, though, it seems poetry is a very needed thing
poetry saves the mind, letting out the thoughts and ideas that would otherwise burn a hole through your head(much like a dollar seems to burn a hole through your pocket at the arcade)
poetry saves...well, people...i have seen the intense emotions many poets have expressed through writing...
i have wondered where else that emotion would be, if not on paper
i have wondered to myself...without poetry...who here, would be dead?
have you wondered?
...have you?

Author notes

i dunno, its just something i wrote in contemplation of what poetry is for...love ya liz!

yeah some good points here. Sometimes you can spill out your pent up emotions onto a page. Which can be a great release of frustrations. I would love to see more of these undiluted versions (before the tinkering & editing took place!)...

    Nice one

    Thank you for your entry
Although the thoughts expressed here are not necessarily my own (or indeed the writers) complete explanation of the point of poetry, they do go some way towards addressing the point and that is what the competition is about.
The argument is persuasive and the style effective and is clearly something I can understand (rule 1) and, apart from reeeeal in line 2 and the use of i in place of I , is good use of language (rule 2) and spelling (rule 3).
However there is not too much reference to other peoples work (rule 4).
Non-the-less this was a good effort and pleasing to read.

    Very Insightful

Thank you very much for entering this contest. I may add much more of a comment later on since there are so many other submissions.

You may want to keep in mind that I will try to open more of the same contests one after another if I can earn enough feedback to do so which I must say would be truly appreciated. Altogether, I hope this will also give everybody a glimpse at one of you're favorite accomplishments which hopefully in turn inspire them to look at what else you've got.

I would so agree with you!!!! I have wondered that very thing many times! sometimes it seems that that is the only thing that saves ones mind, or is the only escape for the emotions that are bottled up inside someone! I am kinda in that very place right now, I know I need to write, but just cant. hopefully soon! Keep that pen flowing!!!!!!!!!

This is a great outlook on the reality that poetry often does save many of us from the darness that lives in our hearts or the love we dont know how to tell or even those we ahve lost. Great write!!!!

Reminds me of a button i have....poetry saved my life....taken from a poem which I haave read many times and yes poetry saves our lives.....I asks teenagers who have problems to write it down in a poem and i do read them even at a gig i run and I am amazed at the emotions and quality of their works. If it helps us get through teh grind of living then it is a must do task...we all have out outlets to let the passions find the way out it is just finding what works and poetry does work. You have much wisdom in these lines.Thank you for the pleasure of the read
