period!
yes we all want them
but let's just get over that
and forge on.
fence sitting, waffling and being overly cautious
are the ingredients for mediocrity
and that's not an indictment on mediocrity
if that's what floats your boat.
but if you want to live a vibrant and exciting life
you have to be willing to take risks.
well thought out and calculated,
but risks nevertheless.
those proverbial bumps in the road
are the highs and lows that remind me
that I am very much alive,
and ultimately provide for me
that elixir,
that I like to call
"the juice of life".

Author notes
In my mind life is all about risk taking, in virtually every aspect. The only certainty is that there are no certainties, so plan accordingly. Few things in my life have been handed to me on a platter, instead most involved risk taking, and one does not always win. But like going for”the large” when you lay it all on the line, and roll the dice the juice is intoxicating. Love is like that too, we take chances, we win…we lose, and still we keep coming back for more. Laying it on the line, for the juice.

Great, and very true write here! I definitely agree. I really liked this bit:
and that's not an indictment on mediocrity
if that's what floats your boat.
It made me laugh!
This reminds me of a saying: Forget about the past, or the disatant future. There is no way to reveal your destiny, other than to make it turn out the way you want it to.
The juice of life indeed. Thanks for sharing this. Ít's a great philosophy. -
Some great advice here Henri!!! I've never been much of a risk taker myself and it hasn't done me a lot of good playing it 'safe' lol...taking a few risks does get the adrenalin pumping... an excellent write once again!!!!!

Great uplifting write here ferg!
What is that saying..? To experience the highs one must experience the lows. To risk is to dare to live.. without risk one can only hope to begin to experience.
Good write!

How well you always express your thoughts and feelings Henri...this has such a great flow to it , such a positive and inspirational message...
I think we cling to the safety net at times and reject the
unknown...self protection the better option...but how much we miss in doing so I suppose...life in a cocoon...
Enjoyed ...keep expressing mon amie

Ah, a fencesitter I am...afraid of all things unknown too. There have been times I've stepped out of the box and taken risks and thankfully I have no regrets. After reading this I feel the itch of inspiration to reach out and grab the unknown. It is worht a shot after all, isn't it?
Thanks for giving me a light bulb moment.

Love is the freedom to test your wings within the soul of the beloved ... and vice versa
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Poet.

I am just beginning to learn these things. I stand on the cusp of such change in my life...and in myself. I see it happening..I feel the possibilites. The air becomes electric...
My how enlightenment brings change.

I'm completely with you here. There is a choice we make to either live or exist. In living...we choose the possibility that we may fall flat on our faces each time we take that leap toward a risk. But the biggest risk of them all...is doing nothing...you risk having just that...NOTHING. I'd rather jump off the side of the mountain reaching for that brass ring than sit upon a stoop in hopes the ring will come to me(fat chance!) Liked the sentiments you expressed here very much!

sunsets are loved
because they vanish
flowers are loved
because they go
the dogs of the field
cats of the kitchens
are loved because
they must depart
not the sole reasons
but at the heart
of morning welcomes
and afternoon laughters
is the farewell
we must live to be happy
this reminds me of situations in life where people can throw their crap on you and then think you will feel guilty....

I have won and lost without consideration of the cost ... and even though I've traveled very low ... I always rise again.
Without risk there truly is no reward! This is very inspirational Henri. I often wonder how some remain in the grasp of mediocrity when life in itself has so much to offer if we are willing to step to the edge and jump. To feel alive ... is there anything more grand?
Fantastic work! ~ B -
Excellent!
Enjoyed your poem, Henri! Good message here! I'm willing to take a risk (as long as I know the odds are in my favor)!

Amen Henri! There are something in life we just need to discover and experience for ourselves, rather than relying on others to "warn" us or keep us "safe." Ive fallen quite a bit thru the years, dusted myself off and continued traveling down that bumpy road you speak of. In the end, I rather take the fall than sit in a chair and watch the world, and life, drift by. Excellent poem - made me think about what it really means to "live" - Thank you! Helen

I'm the same way. Life without risk...ain't livin'. Pain keeps the razor sharp to cut ideas away from fiction and fantasy, and allows the relegation of those two essential elements to bring about a higher fact. To the timid soul, mediocracy is a high goal, and indeed might excite them perfectly. But that's my opinion. My loft is anothers' basement. I'm not the brightest buld on the tree, nor the dimmest. But I am beautiful to somebody's eye, and that makes my eye happy. ET
