How can there be christmas without Penny?
When every year she'd rest beneath our tree.
Excited we would chase her down the hall,
and when exhausted on the couch she'd sprawl.
She'd trail you 'round the house when she was bored,
and make those whuffing noises when ignored.
She'd play with you if she were in the mood,
and sibling scuffles often then ensued.
Out on the porch she'd watch over her yard.
Our fluffy, foot-tall, fearsome little guard.
The only dog I knew scared of the dark.
She'd sit up in the window just to bark.
In bed all night trying to steal your space,
or by the door she'd whine and fret and pace.
O, Will I ever sleep again in peace?
forgo forever night time's sweet release.
The sweetest dog I ever met is gone
and somehow life continues to go on...

Thank you for entering this contest!
I am sorry to hear about your recent sad loss. Although this is a sorrowful piece, I really enjoyed reading about your wonderful pet, Penny Lane. Your creative poem is an ode of pride and loving joy, straight from your kind and compassionate heart. Thank you for sharing, I wish you the best! Peace, Cyn

"somehow life continues to go on" It's so hard when you lose a pet. I like the details you have given us about Penny's death. It sounds like she enjoyed her life and I was moved by your telling us about her death.
Thank you for your entry. -
Very sad. Your dog looks adorable. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Nicely rhymed and good rhythm. Thanks for entering.

First of all, I would like to say what a gorgeous dog, second of all you have my deepest sympathy in your loss, but be strong for Penny, I'm sure she had the most cherished times when she spent them with you and your family, she'd be happy because she had a life worth living.
You'll be okay, I promise, don't think about the fact they're gone, just know that you'll always have a friend for life.
Thankyou so much for sharing this with me, what a wonderful friend she was.
RIP Penny Lane Weiss.
Love and Light. -
Worth much more than a Penny
I might suggest that you add lines 15 thru 18 to your notes or they could be the first four lines to a double sonnet. Your first 14 lines are about Penny and well done. Though line 14 could be: or by the door she would whine, fret and pace. The comma to slow it down for the end. Then start again on your feelings for Penny. -
This is so sad to me...It really hit me hard your words...my dog is 17 yrs old..and has not been doing well...somedays she is her self then other days not...I feel for your loss...animals are part of our families...you done well expressing your emotions here..well done...I wish your well, thanks for sharing
