looking both ways before I cross
All the
memories
of
tomorrow
fall
down over me
I'm bored of being god
stuck here in Elysium
Somewhere between the edge of Heaven
and the center of the universe
Reaching up to touch the stars
that fall into my eyes
they're freezing in the emptiness of my mind
I'm tearing all the stars down
building up the darkness
until it swallows our pitiful existence
Hollowed souls under the moon
scream into the emptiness
of the cold, black desert of Oblivion
In the madness of our existence
apathy and stupidity fall
like asteroids crashing to the Earth
Upeaval in the Valley of Shadows
where the Soulless River flows
I have a Savior in my pocket
crying about a perfect world
now buried under ash
Sweet lamentations
remind me of this delicate existence
that this blind stupidity has stolen
We played God as we built nature
and betrayed human instinct
We willingly killed everything
in this valley of self-destruction
Now the silence is the only thing
to remind us of our humanity
and the end of the world
The wind is without it's whisper
and yet it's blown the apples down
They clung to the trees in desperation
yet now they lay on the ground
blackened cold and stricken
choked by the ash that fell from the skies
and tumbled from the mountains
Shadows crawl through the macabre
like worms in the graveyard of our eyes
The stars are burning out every night
in gentle puffs of light
The universe is left alone
in a war it cannot win
Between Hades and Apollo
the Battle of All That's Forgotten
I walk the land the Titans walked
while the world is held upon my soul
I walk the land the Hebrews walked
a thousand years ago
I walk the land that Caeser walked
when he led war against the world
And now I'm meeting the past at the present
and looking both ways before I cross
Will I fall off the edge of this forsaken Earth
or walk this desert of emptiness,
I stand in this valley of smithereens
like a nomad searching for a flock made of dust
Dust floating away in Heavens wind
until gravity pulls it down
The oblivion is falling now
after the fire scorches the land
The river is black and tainted
with the tar of death and stupidity
Carcass after carcass passes by so slowly
Hollow specimans,
rats and ravens
and the torn petals of hyacinths
Born, breath, life and death
and everything in between
Welcome to the Inferno
a seething rain falls here,
setting the world ablaze
Long ago the sun collapsed
and ashes rained from the Heavens
Blackened clouds within the sky
spray sparks over the Valley of Oblivion
and the Kingdom of Elysium
Butterflies smolder in the ruination
this hellish place once called paradise
The forbidden lives are sacrificed
and tossed into the catacombs
as if they never even mattered
Dead goldfish are floating in the river
the seething cess pool of toxicity
And in the present things around us fall
like satellites spinning around the years
broken and trashed and left to rust
There's silence in the shadows of Eden
the Beggers Garden
Dried lotuses and withered Hyacinthes
torn loose from the scorching wind
A seething rain sets the world aflame
and even Heaven cries
stars crashing to the ground
Here is gone before eternity
Grace has fallen so long ago
Grace has fallen
and now the other side of tomorrow
is the only thing that exists today
Paper flowers and broken glass
Roses, full moons and graves
and a moment in Oblivion
We move over the broken glass
like rats starving in the gutters
They claw endlessly through the wreckage
for a source of food
though alas none remains
The monuments in the shadows
The columns in the dust
lay shattered in the rubble of tomorrow
Something inspired the madness of our existence
as we built a light to greet a Savior
only the blind can see
We baptized this valley in fire
and built pyramids to the sky
Grew flowers and played Nature
and reamed everything alive
The final drops of starlight fall now
until the Darkness swallows them in shadow
The Earth has gone completely numb
and the Nightingale has died
In a thousand years
our legacy that is nothing but a rose
will wilt and die
as if nothing ever mattered
Fragile petals waltz in the scorching wind
that's screaming from the Heavens
as a tempest rolls in
The storm has set, the clouds are breathing
and the dreaming tree has caught fire
struck by the lightning of damnation
The dead are dancing in the catacombs
and somewhere we're all lost
The years are spinning around our minds
like satellites thrown off into the stars
Scenes from the last safe place
flickers on the Telescreen
Someone sees our self-destruction
dancing in the sky
A Savior at the end of the world
He'll carry the message all those miles
before he too shall die
Leave and let go, just escape perfect
breaking is easier than crossing the rubicon
Chaos falls from the apple tree
and Kismet grows in the Garden of Eden
Winter soon comes to passing
then the stars will flicker out
dissolving the remains of light
and hope
Oblivion soon begins to fall
to cover the ground in ice
White sensations blind the mind
Everyday is the same without tomorrow
when tomorrow never comes
After all these frozen years
can roses bloom in January
can lotuses grow in winter
With the passing of the seasons
all the petals on the ground
frozen bodies make no sound
as they walk in the graveyard of Eternity
The stars are cold and shivering
and the universe is cringing
Torch the Earth and make it melt
Cross the rubicon
and say goodbye to paradise
Standing at the edge of the Earth
everyone has these dreams of drowning
It's like a hollywood getaway
and it all starts with fire
What inspires the madness of existence
when we've forgotten how to live
We're the children of the Genesis
learning to breathe again
The Children of the Revelations
gather around the River Styx
Sweetly numbed by the colors of war
glowing in mankind's eyes
We torched the Earth and cut the sky
and we're letting our souls die
Meet the future, cross the rubicon
We're waiting to die, our dreams crucified
Everything is dead
beyond the rubicon
And now the world is ending
the world is ending
the world is ending
And now the world is ending
and this is how it sounds
And now the world is ending
the world is ending
the world is ending
Yes now the world is ending
Look both ways
Do you want to cross?

"We played God as we built nature

Your poem should be the poster-boy for a Save The World campaign. All the historical references, the vocabulary usage, the basic truth in this, they all made this an impressive poem that's through provoking and emotional.
I'd love if everyone just woke up one day, opened up their eyes and realized the destruction we're doing to our planet. But sometimes, I think that will never happen because people are so willing to turn the blind eye.
Very well written, I enjoyed reading this and I thank you for taking the time to enter it in the contest. I'm sorry too, for the length of time it took for me to comment and judge. Best of luck!

remarkable
I cannot honestly pick a favorite part of this..it is just overwhelming, in a few places, it seems to be a little less than in other lines, but, a very powerful piece that contains so many great lines that it is surely a winner

I could sense the allusions you made, and they fit in nicely with the poem. I loved when you wrote: "What inspires the madness of existence
when we've forgotten how to live
We're the children of the Genesis
learning to breathe again". Reminds me of society today. -
it takes quite a while to finish reading it. but it really makes a lot of sense. i've never seen a poem this long.

A brilliant read, really thorough and deserves a prize. Your opinions are strong, but not forced and your devices compliment this perfectly. Well done!
-
This is simply too good not to read again! Therefore I am bookmarking. The aliterations, the metaphors you use are ordinal and very well thought out, the end of the world refering and alluding to the global warming, the wars between terror and religion. It is a true masterpice in epic proportions and I applaud you for this wonderful write.
