Cupid and Psyche

Lips like silk, sultry sweet and un-forgivingly fast
Climaxed into the glow of sweat and satin
Slumber like warmth spreads
Stretching her body, tangle with his.

His kisses salty, eyes bright –
He watches the Night shatter, splinter
into Day. Then Passion’s gone away.
Split, vamoose, gone.
His passion is a smirk.
Her love a joke.

Fingers set on betraying lips – I am envious.
My own desires spattered with
disappointing nights and rawness
where that glow should dwell.
Enduring rather than welcoming
And again striving
Not to give in to another
disenchantment.

Author notes

Based on the painting Cupid and Psyche, by Jacques-Louis David. (http://www.artrenewal.org/images/artists/d/David_Jacques_Louis/large/Cupid_and_Psyche.jpg)

Done for class in what is supposed to be the style of the Confession Poets, particularly Anne Sexton and her poem Starry Night.

Great job on the prompt, I put it into simpler words,
    feeling used and forsaken.
I loved the metaphor in this, great job.

THe muth of Eros and Psyche is very close to my heart. This write is very deep, as the meaning of disenchantment, reveals itself slowly to the reader,

    Very nice.

    Excellent

I very much enjoyed this work. Were one to close their eyes, it would be seen as a slow motion video on the movie screen of the inner eyelid - lol.

Well written, with very good flow.

    Thoroughly enjoyed,
    Blessings,

Thank you for the applause and nice words.

(Do you know, my friend said the same thing! "I kind of imagine a scene shot in slow motion with sultry lighting.")

I'm glad you liked it. Thank you very much!

I thought this was wonderful. I love this myth. It is one of my favorites. I wrote a poem based on Cupid and Psyche.
